SHOES

THE STORY OF MY SHOES
I’ve always loved to dance in the traditional shoes my grandmother made by hand when I was 16.
Not only did she cut and sew them herself, but she also tanned the leather after the annual lamb slaughter.
When the shoes were ready, she soaked them in lukewarm water and made me wear them the whole day so they would cocoon around my feet.
They fit perfectly. They danced perfectly. They made me feel like a ballerina with the touch of her love.
Unfortunately, nothing lasts forever. The shoes are broken in the seams. My grandmother passed away.
Most of the great handicrafts she mastered disappeared along with her.
I never managed to learn it all.
For many years I’ve had a dream of recreating the shoe she made. Retouch it. Make it even better.
It’s taken me 1,5 years to develop the “RósaIrena” shoe with a Portuguese shoemaker, handmade, one by one.
Named after my grandmother who also loved to dance <3
